This quaint and charming village is a great location for browsing in boutiques, galleries and unique gift shops.
Located north of Duck on Highway 12, the center is open throughout the summer. Walking and guided tours of the research facility are offered at 10:00 am, Monday - Friday.
The memorial is the site of the first powered flight made by Orville & Wilbur Wright on December 17, 1903. The Visitor Center features a full-scale reproduction of the Wright Flyer, flight room talks by park rangers, a gift shop and museum area. The site also includes the granite monument, historical markers and a public airstrip. Open all year, 9 am to 5 pm, with longer hours during the summer months. (252) 441-7430. Admission fee.
The 400-acre park has the largest natural sand dune on the East Coast, about 140 feet. A self-guided trail is open year round. Nature programs are held during the summer. Hang gliding, kite flying and climbing the dunes are favorite activities. The park has picnic facilities, a visitor center and restroom facilities. Parking on West Carolista Street. Park hours: 8 am - 9 pm, June - August; 8 am - 8 pm, April - May and September. (252) 441-7132. Free.
