Cape Hatteras National Seashore
The first national seashore in the US extends more than 70 miles from South Nags Head to Ocracoke Inlet and includes Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island (and seven villages) linked by NC 12, covering 30,000 acres. This was the first national seashore established in this country and includes a variety of natural and historic attractions. Picnic, camping and interpretive programs are offered seasonally. Bodie Island Marshes
Many species of wildfowl during the winter months. Egrit, heron, glossy ibis, wading birds spring through the fall. There is a parking area off Highway 12 for birders. National Park Service controls wildfowl hunting in season.

Bodie Island Lighthouse
The beacon is located eight miles south of the US 158 and US 64 intersection. The 150-foot high horizontally-striped lighthouse is not opened for climbing, but a visitor center in the old keeper's quarters has exhibits (May - September). (252) 441-5711. Free.
Pea Island National Refuge
The refuge is adjacent to NC 12 between Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe, with the headquarters seven miles south of the inlet. The 6,000-acre refuge is a haven for more than 265 species of birds and features wildlife such as snow geese and Canada geese during the winter, and from spring to autumn, there is a variety of wading, shore and upland birds. Chicamacomico Lifesaving Station
The site is located on Highway 12 in the village of Rodanthe. The original station was built in 1874 then converted into a boat house when the new station was constructed in 1911. Exhibits and reenactment of lifesaving drill during the summer.
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse
Located off NC 12 in Buxton, this is the tallest brick lighthouse on the American Coast standing at 208 feet high. Open for climbing during the summer months. 268 steps to a spectacular view of the national seashore. Former keeper's quarters serves as a visitor center. Open year round. (252) 995-4474.
Frisco Native American Museum & Natural History Center
Located off Highway 12 in Frisco. Museum has authentic collections of ancient artifacts and unusual displays. Features include self-guided wooded trails, exhibits, a screened pavilion with fireplace and picnic tables. (252) 995-4440.
Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum
Scheduled to open in the future, the museum will be located in Hatteras village. (252) 986-2995.
