Security Issues

The Outer Banks Shopping Village is a collection of independent businesses. Each business is responsible for the presentation of the products and services it offers for sale as well as for processing its own orders. When you place an order, an e-mail message is sent to the appropriate Merchant carrying notification that an order has been received. This e-mail order notification does not contain your credit card information. The Village Merchant must visit his secure, password protected, "cash register" to retrieve your confidential credit card information. Once retrieved, your Village Merchant processes your order locally as if you had just selected merchandise in his store and had handed him your credit card. It is important to note that you are dealing directly with the Village Merchant and not with an intermediary. Should you have questions regarding your order please contact the responsible Outer Banks Village Merchant .

We make Network Solutions Encryption Certificates available to our Village Merchants which allow you to place secure orders on-line.

Outer Banks Shopping Village and East Carolina Network customers utilize these Corporate Digital ID Certificates issued by Network Solutions Corporation. We believe in the security of on-line transactions and the digital encryption systems used by Network Solutions, however we want you to know there are several alternative payment methods available to you. You may choose from the following:

You may pay by credit card. Your credit card information is encrypted and securely transferred to the Outer Banks Shopping Village server when you are using a current version Netscape Navigator, version 3.0 [beta 6 or later] or Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 3.0 [or later] browsers. Once received by our server, your credit card information is placed in a secure, password protected database for retrieval and processing by the Village Merchant with whom you choose to do business.
You may call the selected Village Merchant using the phone number normally provided within the Merchant's presentation.
You may FAX your credit card and order information directly to the Village Merchant you have chosen. Dont forget to include your name, address, phone number and e-mail address on your FAX in case the Merchant needs to contact you regarding your order.

Should you feel uneasy about the security of any information you are about to transmit over this network or the internet in general, we strongly recommend you contact the Village Merchant of your choosing directly by phone or other means. In such case do not send your credit card number or any other information by the forms we have provided herein.
