Atlantic Coast Storms & the Outer Banks
It is a tribute to the strong will and determination of generations of Outer Banks families who with little resources were able to endure strong storms and continue to thrive on these barrier islands. Today with satellite and early warning weather systems Outer Banks families are notified well in advance of most storms and with the support of the State of North Carolina and local and regional emergency management systems visitors and residents are kept informed of their progress as storms move past and along the Outer Banks.
Bulletins and advisories from the Dare County Emergency Management System Control Group, The Outer Banks Visitors Bureau and the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce keep residents and visitors informed of each storm's status. See our Weather Page for links to the National Hurricane Center and other weather related resources.
