A violent hurricane known as the "Racer's Storm"blew up south of Jamaica, crossed Yucatan, struck the Gulf Coast of Texas,curved to the east to move over Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia,South Carolina, and arrived off the North Carolina coast on October 9.

Before it passed, it had sunk 3 ships, almost 4, takingabout 90 lives. The Enterprise, Charleston, and Home.

-Enterprise-Warren, RI. was within 20 miles of the VirginianCapes on a passage from Wilmington to Georgetown, DC. The Captain is WilliamBrayton.

-Charleston-Went from Philadelphia to home port in SouthCarolina.

-Home-Went from New York to Charleston.
