A native of Virginia Beach, VA, Betsy has come to the Outer Banks since she was a child to vacation with her family and has continued the tradition with her own family. In 2000, after a career in advertising, she began taking photographs for fun. More than anything though, it was to record the beauty on film to take back home to Texas, where she currently resides. The hobby turned into a passion and before long, Betsy was contributing photographs to the Outer Banks Sentinel and The Coastland Times newspapers. She writes a weekly inspirational column in The Coastland Times called, "Reflections by the Sea", which includes her photography. Betsy continues her work on NCOB where her photographs of Hurricane Isabel's destruction caught the attention of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the NC Sea Grant Association.
